who are we?
Vocal Production is one of Chula Vista High School's two beginning choir classes.
Pedagogical Philosophy: Developing skill in listening, reading and performing vocal music opens an avenue of personal expression that provides the performer deeper understanding of the self and a way to evoke images, feelings and emotions that communicate not only sound but sense (meaning) to others. Further, students now live in an age of “instant” music and a social community that considers aesthetic valuing as a strictly personal preference. Students have the opportunity to experience all styles of vocal music in a class setting. The development of musicianship skills, understanding and extending the vocal range and developing choral technique is accomplished through initial mastery (Levels of Difficulty 1 and 2) of the same set of standards and objectives. Students in Vocal Production also have the opportunity to listen beyond a single limited lens such as the iPod or MTV. They will engage in a broad range of music, encompassing cultures and history, and develop the ability to critique and evaluate the skill level and aesthetic quality of music, composers and performers This course will assist in developing a generation that not only knows what music it likes and dislikes, but understands and articulates how it arrived at those preferences.
